writing about writing

Published May 23, 2026

Back in March, my friend Jess and I made a pact to write at least one thing per month to start building up a practice of (mostly technical) writing.I’d also be remiss not to mention that Angelo and Phil have repeatedly encouraged me to start a writing habit for my own personal growth.

Almost immediately after making this pact, I wondered if this even made sense in the year 2026. Are personal blogs worthwhile in a world where your favorite AI chatbot can summarize any topic for you instantly? Am I simply feeding some corpus of web-scraped data to make Claude 4.8 the tiniest bit better?

On the flip side, perhaps hand-written technical writing is even more important in the era of LLMs as a means of maintaining my own writing style and voice. Even ignoring the impact of LLMs, I am not optimistic enough to assume that anyone else will read anything I say here except for me…and the friends who I force to read these , so I’m accepting this writing practice of less of an attempt to share things online and more of a means of honing my craft, just out in public.

With all that said, here are my current writing goals.

  1. Become better at articulating my understanding and ideas.

  2. I’ve always learned best by teaching, so use these blog posts as a way to ensure that I actually fully understand a topic to a degree where I can clearly explain it to a newcomer.

  3. Strive to work my way up Bloom’s Taxonomy. It is far easier to fulfill my side of the pact by simply writing summaries of topics I already knowkinda like this post! .

I hope that over time, these posts will be more opinionated and include more insights gained via exploratory programming and analysis, rather than just summary.
